Centre Wellington OEYC - Full Story The OEYC programs in Centre Wellington continue to grow this winter! We are excited about the new programs that we are able to offer parents/caregivers with children ages 0-6 years in our community. With the concern for childhood obesity on the rise, we want to do our part to encourage healthy and active lifestyles. On Wednesday mornings we now have Let’s Get Movin’, a brand new energetic and physically active drop-in program for children ages 0-6 years. This program is offered at the Alma Bible Church, located on Peel Street East in Alma from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. It includes free play with lots of gross motor activities such as riding toys, a climber, a slide, tunnels, and balls. Our program facilitator also organizes group games that will keep kids hopping like parachute play, tag, relays, and more. We are also encouraging healthy eating by providing a nutritious snack each week.

On Wednesday afternoons we are offering the Esso Family Math program from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at our main site in Fergus. This interactive 6-week program is for children ages 3-6 years and their parents/caregivers. It is based on the Mathematics curriculum used in Kindergarten and Grade 1, encouraging positive attitudes towards math. Parents/caregivers and children will have fun learning together in this program through hands on activities such as counting, sequencing, measuring, patterning, stories, and songs that will strengthen math skills and prepare children to enter the school system. Registration is required for this program.

On Thursday afternoons from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. we have a new French Program called Bonjour Mes Amis. This program introduces children to the French language as they learn colours, numbers, and letters. Through simple French songs, stories, and crafts parents/caregivers and children will be exposed to a new language in a fun and playful manner. This program is a fun way to learn the basics of French and a great way to prepare children who are entering school in the French Immersion program. It is a registered program for ages 3-6 years and is also located at our main site on St. David St. S. in Fergus. We are currently having staff trained in Infant Massage so that we will be able to offer this program very soon. Watch our upcoming newsletters for more details on when this program will begin.
